Testimonials

"Rowing has completely changed my life. From willpower to motivation to diet choices, my life has become a healthier, more driven one. This is the best decision I have ever made."

"In my four years at Grand Valley the equestrian club was a huge part of my life, these people were part of my family. I loved being a part of the team and I would recommend a club sport to everyone who goes to Grand Valley."

"It was the best decision I ever made to join rugby, I gained the best of friends, found a new sport, and it was an awesome stress reliever."

"One of the best experiences of my college career."

"The club baseball program was a great way to continue playing competitive baseball at the next level. It helped build character and taught the importance of balancing school, social life, and sports."

"It was a lot of fun and I got to meet people, I otherwise would not have known. It really helped since I had just transferred from another school."

"I came to GVSU because of the club gymnastics team. I have loved being on this team. It has made my GV experience more whole and well-rounded. I got to come into college experiencing so many new things, but also having gymnastics as my constant, something I had always loved."

"As a new freshman on the club team, they made me feel welcome and accepted. I had an amazing time working and playing with the girls on the team. It made me like GVSU, even more, knowing that I was a part of the team."

"Participating in club sports at GVSU has been extremely beneficial and has led to unforgettable friendships. I have grown not only as a leader but also as a person. Playing alongside such a wonderful group of girls (as well as an amazing coach), led me to focus on my studies and strive to be a better athlete. I have learned a great deal from participating in club sports and am so exceptionally happy to have been given the chance to do so."

"It is a great experience that is really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity - don't miss out on it."

"Club sports essentially provided me with my college experience. All of the friends that I will keep for years to come have come from my club sports experience; I wouldn't trade that for anything."

"Playing dodgeball here was both a new experience and a fun one. I had the chance to meet so many people and travel around the state and even the country to play against other schools and I'm glad that I took a chance with joining this team/club."

"With graduation just a few days away, I can strongly say that getting involved with a club sport definitely helped me grow as an individual. I would encourage everyone to try AT LEAST one club sport out; whether it be for competition or just for fun, the friends you make and the memories you gain will be so worth it. I know I will have these to cherish after my time here at Grand Valley comes to an end."

"Playing club sports at Grand Valley gave me the feeling that I was playing the sport I love at a very high level while making some of the best friends I could ever imagine meeting here at school. It made relationships that are going to last a lifetime."

"Club sports at GVSU gave me the opportunity to extend my social connections not only for leisure/enjoyment but for future work connections as well."

"Playing in a club sport connects you with members of not only GVSU but with students from all over the country. Not many activities can do that as effectively as club sports."

"Playing Women's Club Volleyball helped make my four years at Grand Valley the best possible. I was able to keep playing volleyball at a competitive level! I also got experience in many different administration processes. I saw budget plans, travel plans, and the work it takes to run an effective organization. We had to plan a fundraiser and hold each other accountable for doing their part. It was a way to meet amazing people while still being able to participate in other organizations, keeping my grades up, and have a part-time job. I learned a lot of life skills in the club as well as being able to be a great sports team."

"Participating in a sport, club, or activity while in school not only gives us as students an outlet, but the team or other participants in that activity become so close to one another it is like a home away from home. I believe being involved in extracurricular activities while in college is key to success in the future."

"Club Sports has given me a chance to compete beyond the high school level, which is something that I have always wanted to do. The competition level is high and the commitment is less time-consuming than that of a varsity sport, which is nice. Great experience overall."

"Very beneficial to those who enjoy playing at a competitive level but were unable to obtain a high-end sports scholarship."

"By participating in club sports, it decreased my homesickness, increased my connection with GVSU, let me meet new people, and gave me something to do on the weekends."

"Joining the Waterski team was the best decision I have made at GVSU. The team is a great team and I became more involved in it than I ever thought I would. Going to Nationals was a great experience and I believe we represented the school wonderfully."

"Participating in club sports has really impacted my time here at Grand Valley. It has allowed me to continue to play sports at a high level and make new friends as well. I am very glad that I have played club sports here at Grand Valley and I plan to continue to do so for my next two years as well."

"I transferred to GV this fall and I really didn't know anyone. Joining club soccer helped me meet so many people which was really nice and I got to stay in shape."

"Personally, I believe that participating in club sports at GV has changed my life. It has provided me with so many skills and opportunities that I am very grateful to have. Participating in rowing was one of the hardest things I've ever done both mentally and physically, but I wouldn't have it any other way."

"Club sports at GVSU have been a contributor to my success, not just in athletics but in academics and life as well. The ability to multi-task and time management is critical. These skills would not have been engrained had I not joined the GVSU Rowing Club and club sports. I have become a leader on my team within my academics and on the water. The opportunity to stay healthy, compete, and represent Grand Valley State University all around the world has been a distinct honor and privilege. To be honest, I would not have come to Grand Valley State University if it did not have a rowing club. But since I came here, I have realized that Grand Valley has so much it offers students and now know that I made the best decision of my life thus far to attend this great university."

"My experience as a rower at GV has taught me so much in the last 3 years. It has taught me teamwork, the value of hard work, the value of positivity and attitude, it has taught me how to succeed humbly as well as fail graciously, and I am so glad I am a part of such an amazing group of people. I will undoubtedly carry over the lessons I have learned here into my future life and career."

"Club sports are a great way to mold yourself to be a well-rounded individual, testing your ability to balance the rigors of both academic and athletic endeavors."

"The rowing team provides an experience that closely resembles that of a varsity sport, in terms of training, competition, and travel, but being a club necessitates additional duties (related to travel, boathouse maintenance, team activities, rent-a-rower) that really make you value the experience. to travel the country under the Grand Valley name and compete at the highest level has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career."

"Being a part of the GVSU Roller Hockey Club has given me opportunities that I would otherwise not experience. I have made many friends through the program who I see not only at practice but also on campus and outside of school. Being a part of the team has helped me become a better team member within and outside of the organization. It has also had a positive effect on my work ethic and drive to achieve goals. Being a part of the organization has also helped me during interviews and securing my current internship."

"Being a part of the roller hockey club is a great experience and at a great skill level. We had the opportunity to play other big name and small name schools which gave you a large outlook on all the different people out there. It was disciplined yet fun and can't wait for next season!"

"My time within the club sports program at GVSU taught me how to step up and be a leader, how to set and manage goals, and it brought about a healthier and more positive social lifestyle."

"Club sports heavily impacted my decision to attend GVSU, and I was not disappointed. I have made some great friendships and even met my future roommate through this organization. I plan to get more involved and hold a leadership position on my team next year. Go Lakers!"

"After transferring to GVSU this past semester the men's lacrosse club brought me in as a family. We reached our goal of becoming national champions for the first time in school history and are thrilled to continue this winning tradition."

"Club sports is the reason I chose GVSU."

"Synchronized skating has always been a part of my skating career. I am who I am because of this sport and the chance to continue with it while being in college has been one of the most rewarding advantages. Also due to the fact that synchronized skating is considered a club sport at GVSU, we have a board and positions which really allows me to learn responsibility and leadership skills to help me advance in my future career. The people I have met through this are like a family to me and being able to support and represent my school with my family has truly been a blast."

"Without this team/club, I would not have had the great first-year experience at GV as I did."

"Participating in Rugby is one of the single greatest things that has happened to me since I stepped onto the GVSU Campus. It has been a great experience and offered me an opportunity to make a lot of friends and bond over the opportunity to play rugby in college."

"My club sport, my Quidditch team, has given me a sense of home and friendship. My teammates are the only people I know I can always go to. I also feel like a better leader and a better follower from the strong teamwork that my team exhibits."

"Playing a club sport here at GVSU has taught me a few things. It forced me to work on my time management between volleyball, work, and school. It has allowed me to continue to work on teamwork which I can use those skills at work and in school as well. Plus, it was a lot of fun and I made a lot of fun memories and new friends."

"Playing women's hockey at GVSU has allowed me to make so many wonderful lifelong friends as well as giving me a sense of pride for the school you can only get when you put on a GV jersey."
