Brooks College Advising Center

Now that the first few weeks of class are behind you, it is a great time to check out all the free resources GVSU offers! Whether you need support for basic needs, mental health, or academics, GV has resources for you! And if you are not sure what resource is the right fit, or you have a challenge you aren’t sure how to overcome, we welcome you to schedule an appointment with an advisor so we can help you get connected to the support you need to be successful.

Did you know that GVSU has a food pantry for students with locations downtown and in Allendale? If you need support with housing, food or other basic needs, check out https://www.gvsu.edu/basic/ to see the open hours for Replenish and other resources on campus and in the community.

Do you need support for anxiety, depression, homesickness, or other mental health needs? University Counseling Center offers one on one appointments (https://www.gvsu.edu/counsel/our-services-91.htm) but they also offer a range of excellent support groups so you can connect with other students who are facing similar challenges and work together with a counselor on strategies to approach those issues. Check out the options here:  https://www.gvsu.edu/counsel/group-therapy-schedule-winter-2023-371.htm

Papers, presentations, and projects can seem overwhelming. Drop in or make an appointment at the Knowledge Market (https://www.gvsu.edu/library/km/)  to get support for library research, writing, presentations, and digital projects or at the Writing Center (https://www.gvsu.edu/wc/) for support at all stages of the writing process. Knowledge Market and Writing Center consultants also offer online services!

Maybe you understand all the material, but you’re struggling to manage your time, set goals, and stay motivated. Try working with a Success Coach at the Student Academic Success Center for holistic support and accountability! (https://www.gvsu.edu/sasc/)

Remember that if you are a first-year student or transfer student, you are REQUIRED to meet with an advisor before registering for the 23-24 academic year. Registration will begin in late March. Even if you are not required to meet with an advisor, we can help you make sure you are on track for graduation, taking the right classes for your major, minor, and career goals, and planning ahead for opportunities like internships and study abroad.

Brooks Advising appointments are available via phone, Zoom, and in person: you choose the format that works best for you! We are NOT currently offering drop in advising. You can call to schedule a same day appointment if available, or easily see the next available appointment on Navigate. We look forward to meeting with you!
