START Project Response to Federal Autism Reports

October 27, 2025

We are sharing this statement to reinforce the importance of clear, evidence-based communication about autism. Recent public discussions have included information that may not align with established scientific consensus, making it essential to reaffirm our shared commitment to accuracy. The START Project has consistently prioritized evidence-based practice informed by rigorous research and grounded in respect for the autistic community.

Multiple leading autism, medical, and scientific organizations have released statements emphasizing the importance of upholding scientific integrity in public discussions about autism. The statement reaffirms that extensive research shows no credible or causal evidence linking vaccines or acetaminophen (Tylenol) use in pregnancy to autism and cautions against misinformation that undermines trust in public health or stigmatizes autistic individuals and their families.

The organizations urge policymakers, media, and the public to rely on peer-reviewed science and expert consensus when communicating about autism causes and treatments. They highlight that speculative claims, including those recently shared in political settings, risk eroding confidence in safe medical practices such as vaccinations and may divert attention from urgent priorities like access to high-quality supports, early identification, and inclusive education.
