Expectations for Current EPLI Trainers of START Content

To maintain Trainer Status, EPLI Trainers of START Content will meet requirements in two areas:

Deliver Professional Learning

Trainers deliver a minimum of 12 hours of START content over a two-year cycle.

Complete Continuing Education

Trainers complete at least 15 hours of START-delivered or sponsored professional learning (Non-examples - RCN delivered trainings, non-START trainings) over a two-year cycle. This includes participation in a brief annual on-demand content update from/by START.

EPLI Bootcamp: Essential Foundations

What is the EPLI Bootcamp: Essential Foundations?

The EPLI Bootcamp: Essential Foundations includes an integration of the universal supports, behavioral practices, and instructional strategies from Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Educational Supports and Strategies, and other START training modules and resources. Content will be organized for flexible and customizable training and coaching needs. 

The Bootcamp will consist of on-demand coursework, five days of content and coaching, and two days of Trainer Days, which are collaborative days intended to strengthen training and presentation skills, for a total of seven days. 

Current Trainers are highly encouraged to attend to strengthen their skills and knowledge and support new trainers! All trainers will benefit from this opportunity because there is substantial value in shared learning and reviewing the full Essential Foundations content. Current Trainers may choose to attend any portion of the Essential Foundations Bootcamp (including on-demand coursework).

What is the time commitment for the EPLI Bootcamp: Essential Foundations?

  • Current Trainers are strongly encouraged to attend the EPLI Bootcamp: Essential Foundations. 
  • Current Trainers are strongly encouraged to complete all asynchronous coursework: 
    • Approximately 3-4 hours of prework before Module 1
    • Approximately 3-4 hours of coursework between Modules 3 and 4

Continuing Education Credits

Please note: Continuing education credits will be issued after the completion of the full Bootcamp.

SCECHS
Available pending application approval for the following components of the Bootcamp: 

  • Modules 1-7
  • Asynchronous Coursework
  • Please note: SCECHs will be issued after the completion of the full Bootcamp.

Social Work CEs
Available pending application approval for the following components of the Bootcamp: 

  • Modules 1-7
  • Social Work CEs will be issued after each Module.

Apply to Attend the EPLI Bootcamp: Essential Foundations

Current EPLI Trainers of START Content are required to submit a brief application to attend the Essential Foundations Bootcamp. 

  • This application will take approximately 8-12 minutes and should be completed in one session.
  • Upon submission of the application, Current Trainers will receive access to the asynchronous coursework. This coursework is strongly encouraged, but optional. 
  • The application deadline is October 17, 2025.

EPLI Advanced Training: FAPE in the LRE

What is the EPLI Advanced Training: FAPE in the LRE?

The EPLI Advanced Training: FAPE in the LRE is intended to support current EPLI Trainers of START content, with increasing confidence and competence, in training the START FAPE in the LRE content in their local contexts. This advanced training is a very rigorous, yet engaging session; prerequisite work is required to prepare participants for the day. In addition to strengthening the content knowledge of trainers, strategies for the instructional delivery of the FAPE in the LRE training module will be shared and practiced. The training will also include opportunities to practice presenting portions of the training module and giving and receiving feedback.

This training also includes 2.5-3 hours of coursework. This course will include readings, videos, and other activities to be completed prior to the Bootcamp. The coursework will be available on February 3, 2026 and should be completed by March 16, 2026.  

Requirements to apply: open to Current EPLI Trainers of START Content that have attended FAPE in the LRE in the past year.

When is the EPLI Advanced Training: FAPE in the LRE?

  • March 17 and 18, 2026
  • 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Lansing Community College West Campus (LCC West), Lansing
  • Coursework: 
    • Estimated time commitment: 2.5-3 hours
    • Coursework should be completed between February 3, 2026 and March 16, 2026
    • Coursework information will be emailed to approved applicants 

Application

This is a two-part application:

  1. Content Knowledge Check (20 questions)
    • A 75% score is required to continue with the application
    • You can retake the Content Knowledge Check as many times as needed
  2. Application Questions 

The application takes 20-25 minutes and should be completed in on session.

It does not convey any endorsement or representation by START or Grand Valley State University related to the trainer’s understanding of that content, or their effectiveness or skill as a trainer or coach.
