Steven V. Carlson, '78

Steven V. Carlson is currently Vice President of Military Customer Management for GE Aviation, for whom he has worked since 2002. He previously worked for Eaton Aerospace for over 14 years.

Earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing in 1978, Steve has served Grand Valley in a multitude of ways since his graduation. He has been active in the GVSU Alumni Association for over 20 years. He joined the Alumni Association Board of Directors in 1986 and served as its secretary from 1989-1993. He served the board again from 2000 – 2008, and was elected Second Vice President and Chair of the Community Outreach Committee during his final two years.

He gives unceasingly of his time and has personally volunteered at a host of alumni events and programs, including alumni Habitat for Humanity builds, Freshman Move In, WGVU Pledge Drives, and as an Alumni Ambassador assisting with university admissions. Steve also serves on the Alumni Champions Committee for Shaping Our Future: The Campaign for Grand Valley State University.
 
Steve and his wife Betsy were founding members of the GVSU Parent and Family Association Advisory board on which they served while their son, Adam, ’09, was a student. During that time, they provided avid support of the men’s club soccer team. The couple currently resides in Grand Rapids.
 
Steve has always been among the first to come forward to answer Grand Valley’s call.   He has given freely and frequently of his time, his talent and his treasure to strengthen his alma mater. His example of loyalty, energy, and service makes Steven V. Carlson most deserving of the 2009 Grand Valley State University Alumni Service Award.
