Stephen Gryzan, '74

Pulmonary physician and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at University of Minnesota Stephen Gryzan, ’74 started his education at Grand Valley State University. After earning his bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Gryzan went on to Michigan State University and Wayne State University where he earned his medical degree in 1979.

After a medical internship at Emory University School of Medicine, Gryzan completed his residency in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital and acquired a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Pittsburg and a research fellowship at the American College of Chest Physicians. In his career, Gryzan has developed a special interest in bronchoscopy, asthma treatment, telemedicine, tuberculosis, and pulmonary function. He has authored more than 30 scientific articles and made numerous presentations.

Along with his work in Minnesota, Gryzan is affiliated with the Massachusetts Medical Society, the American Thoracic Society, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He has been honored with the Ciba-Geigy Fellowship Award of the American College of Chest Physicians as well as the Distinguished Service Award from Wayne State University.

He currently lives in St. Paul, Minnesota.
