Sharon Buursma, '90

Executive Vice President of Spectrum Health, Sharon Buursma, ’90 graduated from Seidman Graduate School of Business after first earning her B.S. in nursing from Michigan State University in 1965. She started her career at Spectrum Health in 1996 as the care management officer while also serving as President and CEO of the Visiting Nurse Association of Western Michigan.
 
Buursma has served on the Board of Directors for the Visiting Nurses Association of America and the Michigan Home Health Association. Her guidance has also been present in organizations such as Untied Way, Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women, and Women’s Coalition for Legislative Action. She currently serves of the Board of Trustees for Davenport College and the Grand Valley University Foundation, the Advisory Boards for Kirkhof School of Nursing and the Master’s in Management Program at Aquinas College, as well as Co-Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee for Gilda’s Club.
 
During her career, Buursma has been honored with such awards as the Hugo Lupinski Public Health Services Award, Outstanding Women in Health Care from the Michigan Woman’s Foundation, and the YWCA Women of Achievement Gallery Award.
 
Buursma currently resides in Grand Rapids.
