Majors Fair Volunteers 2026

The Majors Fair is an opportunity for students to explore a variety of degrees and career paths before declaring, or changing, a major. Most majors offered at GVSU will be represented with a table staffed by faculty who teach in that discipline along with an alumni volunteer who works in that field. Our students relate especially well to individuals who have been in their shoes and can speak about career paths based on real-world experience. You need not necessarily have majored in your current line of work to participate.

This is an in-person event on the Allendale Campus. The Majors Fair runs from 2:00-4:00 and volunteer shifts are one hour long.

New this year: the Majors Fair will take place over two days and the majors represented on each day are split out by theme:

Wednesday, September 23 (2:00-4:00 pm):
Education, Nonprofit, and Public Service; Healthcare; Science and Research

Thursday, September 24 (2:00-4:00 pm):
Business and Management; Communications and the Arts; Engineering, Technology, and Data

Volunteer Opportunities

The Majors Fair will take place over two days and majors are grouped into six themes. These themes are listed below along with the majors that are included. Some tables have several related majors grouped together. Please identify the major (table) you would like to represent and select a volunteer time slot (you may sign up for one or both hours). Please take note of which day your selected major is on (Wednesday 9/23 or Thursday, 9/24).

You do not have to represent the major you graduated with. It is helpful if volunteers can talk about their experience in a program, but many alumni work in different areas from their major and can talk about career opportunities, the industry generally, and transferability of skills. Please select the major you feel most comfortable speaking to students about.
