Secondary Admit Program Requirements

Some majors at Grand Valley have secondary admit program requirements.  Students will need to meet specific criteria to be accepted into these majors.  Use the website links provided for more information.



College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS)

Art, B.A., B.S., or B.F.A. (portfolio review required for admission)

  • Art Education (also requires admission to the College of Education for teacher certification)
  • Studio Art

Athletic Training, B.S.
Film & Video Production, B.A. or B.S.
Music & Dance (audition required for admission)

  • Dance, B.A.
  • Music, B.A.
  • Music, B.M. (performance)
  • Music Education, B.M.E. (also requires admission to the College of Education for teacher certification)

The following CLAS majors do not have secondary admit criteria for the major, but require admission to the College of Education for teacher certification:

Biology, B.A. or BS., with secondary education emphasis
Chemistry, B.S., with secondary education emphasis
Classics, B.A., with Latin secondary education emphasis
Comprehensive Science & Arts for Teaching with Spanish, B.A.
Comprehensive Sciences & Arts for Teaching with Special Education, B.A. or B.S.
Earth Sciences with secondary education emphasis, B.S.
English with elementary or secondary education emphasis, B.A.
French with secondary education emphasis, B.A.
History with secondary education emphasis, B.A. or B.S.
Integrated Science with elementary education emphasis, B.S.
Mathematics with elementary or secondary education emphasis, B.A. or B.S.
Physical Education with professional instruction emphasis, B.S. (K-12)
Physics with secondary education emphasis, B.S.
Social Studies (Group) with elementary or secondary education emphasis, B.A. or B.S.
Spanish with secondary education emphasis, B.A.
