  • If you decide to transfer to GVSU prior to completing your Associates Degree, you should consider taking advantage of the reverse transfer agreement we have with all Michigan community colleges.
  • Our online catalog provides a wealth of information on GVSU's academic programs, policies and procedures, course descriptions, etc.
  • Each college at GVSU has an academic advising center that serves specific majors in that college. If you have specific questions about program requirements, you could contact the advising center to seek additional information.
  • Each academic department at GVSU provides additional information about specific programs of study and links to important resources. You may access a comprehensive list here.
  • Our Career Center provides comprehensive support and resources for all students at GVSU. It is recommended that you connect with the counselors there as soon as you transition to GVSU.
  • The Career Guides by Major allow students to investigate possible career or graduate/professional school opportunities based on specific programs of study.

NOTES:

  • Programs approved by the Michigan Department of Education and accredited by the National Council for Accrediation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
  • Elementary teacher preparation at GVSU will be transitioning to the state mandated grade bands of PreK - Grade 3 and/or Grades 3 - 6.  These new programs are anticipated to be in place Fall 2021.  Students will choose a grade band or combination of grade bands for elementary certification.  For PreK - 3, students will also have the option to add a content area concentration in Social Studies, Integrated Science, Mathematics or Language Arts.  The Grades 3 - 6 band will require one of these concentrations.  In addition, both grade bands will have the option of pursuing Special Education or English as a Second Language (ESL).
  • The College of Education offers programs leading to the bachelor's degree and Michigan Provisional Certification.  Certification is available in elementary general education, secondary general education, or elementary education with special education endorsements.
  • This guide fulfills the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA).  Science electives must be selected from different disciplines.  Humanities elective must be a non-SPN course.  Please check with your community college advisor for addtional assoicate degree requirements.  GVSU will still honor the MACRAO agreement.

  • Students should transfer when they can no longer take any additional Spanish courses.

*Elementary certification students are required to take two science courses after transferring to GVSU and are not encouraged to complete the MTA.
