Overview

Grand Valley's Teacher Preparation program equips students with the skills needed to become effective educators for students from birth through 12th grade. The program offers various tracks, including birth to kindergarten, elementary education, secondary education, PK-12 education, and special education. It emphasizes active learning, the integration of theory and practice, and personalized attention to help students become leaders in their fields.

Students will complete coursework in their chosen track, covering essential topics such as educational psychology, classroom management, curriculum development, and instructional strategies. Additionally, students must meet the requirements of a teachable major and pass the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC). The program includes extensive field placements within 50 miles of Grand Valley's campuses, providing practical teaching experience.

The Teacher Preparation program is approved by the Michigan Department of Education and accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Students receive personalized advising and support from faculty with extensive teaching and administrative backgrounds. Scholarships are available, and the program's strong network of alumni and industry connections enhances career prospects for graduates.
