Overview

Grand Valley offers a graduate certificate in Palliative and Hospice Care designed to prepare individuals for delivering compassionate care to patients facing life-limiting diseases, terminal illnesses, and death. This hybrid program is ideal for professionals across various health and helping professions, including nursing, social work, pharmacy, and spiritual care. The certificate aims to provide a deep understanding of the personal, professional, economic, and legal perspectives involved in palliative and hospice care.

The curriculum consists of four courses totaling 12 credits. Students will study topics such as interdisciplinary care philosophies, pain management, symptom alleviation strategies, grief and loss integration, and effective provider communication. These courses cover essential areas like developing care plans, managing complex symptoms, and supporting patients and families through the end-of-life process.

Admission Information

Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 from an accredited college or university. It is not required to be admitted to a graduate degree program to be admitted to a certificate program.

The online classes are utilized by an experienced interprofessional team of palliative and hospice care faculty members and clinicians to deliver course content.
