The Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Badge has a combined focus on knowledge, skills, and application of teamwork, scopes of practice, values/belief systems, and effective communication for the duality of role development for the workplace.
Grand Valley's Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Badge is designed to address the complexities of the current healthcare system by promoting collaborative teamwork among various disciplines. The program aims to improve patient safety and satisfaction, foster better health outcomes, reduce the cost of care, enhance the experience for providers, and improve health literacy. It provides recognition for students developing skills in core competencies set by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC). The badge can be earned in 12-24 months and involves both credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing activities.
The coursework for the badge includes foundational modules, advocacy training, participation in the Promoting Interprofessional Education for Students (PIPES) organization, interviews with professionals outside the discipline, enrollment in a relevant course, and participation in various interprofessional education activities such as simulations and case studies. Students are required to write reflective statements and complete a summative experience, which can be a simulation case study, literature review, or research paper. The program emphasizes experiential learning and the integration of collaborative skills in the practice environment.
This badge:
A digital badge, or badge, is a record of achievement that recognizes a student's completion of a coherent and meaningful academic experience. GVSU offers both credit and noncredit-bearing badges as digital credentials. Credit-bearing badges include anywhere from 0.5 to 15 academic credits and may include additional noncredit criteria. Credit-bearing badges are also posted to the academic transcript.
