Intercultural Fluency for Business - Advanced

Undergraduate Badge

Allendale • Face to face • 7-11 Credits

As the workplace has become more global in its reach, it has become increasingly important to be able to communicate clearly with professionals beyond U.S. borders.

Overview

The Advanced Intercultural Fluency for Business is designed for business students demonstrating a marked degree of language proficiency to easily navigate the complexities of the 21stcentury work environment, where understanding people from other backgrounds has become critical in local, regional, and international workplaces. The program is designed for Seidman undergraduates pursuing a B.B.A. degree; however, nondegree students seeking intercultural fluency may earn the badge as well.

The badge can be completed in 7 or 11 credits, depending on your language placement level. As part of the requirements, you’ll choose one three-credit business course from a selection that includes international accounting, economic issues, financial reporting, global business culture, management, operations, and multinational marketing.

Additionally, you must complete one advanced-level four-credit course in your target language. Options include:

  • Any approved 300- or 400-level course in
    • Arabic.
    • Chinese.
    • German.
    • Japanese
  • FRE 332, FRE 351, or FRE 395 for French.
  • SPA 306 – Spanish for Business.

You’ll have the flexibility to complete the badge using courses already required in your major, choosing from six available languages. Along the way, you’ll gain highly marketable communication and cultural skills that enhance your education and appeal to potential employers. Efficient and focused, the badge can typically be completed within a year.

A digital badge, or badge, is a record of achievement that recognizes a student's completion of a coherent and meaningful academic experience. GVSU offers both credit and non-credit bearing badges as digital credentials. Credit-bearing badges include anywhere from 0.5 to 15 academic credits and may include additional noncredit criteria. Credit-bearing badges are also posted to the academic transcript.
