As the workplace has become more global in its reach, it has become increasingly important to be able to communicate clearly with professionals beyond U.S. borders.
The Foundational Intercultural Fluency for Business badge is designed for GVSU business students with some language proficiency to navigate the complexities of the 21st-century work environment, where understanding people from other backgrounds has become critical in local, regional, and international workplaces.
While pursuing this badge, you'll study key aspects of global business, including international accounting, finance, economics, and marketing. You'll also explore cultural dynamics, management strategies, and operations within multinational corporations, all built on a foundation of introductory coursework. To support this global focus, you'll complete 100 level coursework in a single modern language: Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, or German, enhancing your ability to engage across cultures in international settings.
You'll work closely with professional instructors who assess your fluency in one-on-one exchanges using culturally appropriate language across everyday situations. As you progress, you’ll develop strong interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication skills in both spoken and written forms. Completing the badge adds highly marketable skills to your resume, enhances your education, and offers an efficient path to specialization, often achievable within a year.
A digital badge, or badge, is a record of achievement that recognizes a student's completion of a coherent and meaningful academic experience. GVSU offers both credit and non-credit bearing badges as digital credentials. Credit-bearing badges include anywhere from 0.5 to 15 academic credits and may include additional noncredit criteria. Credit-bearing badges are also posted to the academic transcript.
