Intercultural Fluency for Business - Intermediate

Undergraduate Badge

Allendale • Face to face • 7-11 Credits

As the workplace has become more global in its reach, it has become increasingly important to be able to communicate clearly with professionals beyond U.S. borders.

Overview

The Intermediate Intercultural Flluency for Business badge is designed for GVSU business students with some language proficiency to navigate the complexities of the 21st-century work environment, where understanding people from other backgrounds has become critical in local, regional, and international workplaces. The program is designed for Seidman undergraduates pursuing a B.B.A. degree; however, nondegree students seeking intercultural fluency may earn the badge as well.

The badge can be completed in either 7 or 11 credits, depending on your language placement level, and includes the flexibility to choose one three-credit business course that aligns with your interests. Options include topics such as international accounting, economic issues, financial reporting, global business culture, people and operations management, multinational corporations, and marketing across borders—each offering valuable insights into the global business environment.

To complete the badge, you must finish intermediate-level four-credit courses—201 and/or 202—in a single modern language and culture. Mixing languages is not permitted, and available options include:

  • Arabic.
  • French.
  • Italian.
  • Spanish.
  • Chinese.
  • German.
  • Japanese.

A digital badge, or badge, is a record of achievement that recognizes a student's completion of a coherent and meaningful academic experience. GVSU offers both credit and non-credit bearing badges as digital credentials. Credit-bearing badges include anywhere from 0.5 to 15 academic credits and may include additional noncredit criteria. Credit-bearing badges are also posted to the academic transcript.
