Classics is a student-centered program that encourages exploration of the living traditions and legacies of the ancient Greek and Roman (Classical) World.

Overview

Learn the living traditions and legacies of the Ancient World through focused study in mythology, religion, language, literature, art, and archaeology, among other topics. The student-centered nature of this program allows close work and one-on-one learning with faculty on analyzing ancient texts and archaeological projects.

You will immerse yourself in a rich curriculum that includes courses in Ancient Greek and Latin, research methods, and notions of classics. You will also engage in intermediate language study in either ancient Greek or Latin, with options to advance your proficiency in both languages. Additionally, you can choose from a variety of electives that explore the broader cultural contexts of the Greco-Roman world, ensuring a well-rounded and comprehensive education in classical studies.

You will become part of an interactive, close-knit community where personalized instruction and advising are the norm. Small student cohorts allow for close collaboration with faculty who know you as an individual. You will pursue independent research projects, work directly with ancient texts, and participate in archaeological work. The Classics Department fosters strong connections between alumni, current students, and faculty, helping you build a robust network for life after graduation.
