Coursework

All Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs require a minimum of 33 semester hours. To receive the M.Ed degree in educational leadership with an emphasis in special education administration, students must complete the College of Education and Community Innovation foundations requirements plus special education emphasis requirements for a minimum of 45 credit hours.

The certificate requires the completion of 15 credit hours of graduate study:

  • PNH 661 - Nonprofit Management Practice
  • PNH 662 - Nonprofit Financial Management
  • PNH 663 - Nonprofit Organizations, Advocacy, and Public Policy
  • PNH 665 - Nonprofit Boards, Trustees, and Governance
  • Three credits of professional workshops or PNH 667 - Fund Development

Application Deadline

Deadline for fall semester is July 15; winter, November 15; spring/summer, March 15. Early application is strongly encouraged to secure course enrollment. Those applications received after the deadline will be considered on an individual basis and program availability. Late applicants should contact program director Nichole Moore, [email protected]. The $30 nonrefundable application fee is waived if you have previously applied to GVSU.

  • Create a quality Change Initiative Proposal focused on curriculum, instruction, assessment, technology or professional development;

  • Conduct an analysis of all school building level faculty in order to conduct professional growth and staff evaluations, school culture and more;

  • Assess the school’s vision, mission, and values/beliefs system, including assessment of School Management and Operational Systems, School Safety and the Welfare of Staff and Students, and Distribution of Leadership;

  • Develop a plan to increase the capacity of staff and assess staffing needs, including forecasting, enrollment projections and timelines;

  • Create a school improvement process and plan based on data that includes visioning, collaborating with appropriate stakeholders, and then creating a plan to sustain a climate conducive to learning and ensuring student success.
