A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available to a highly qualified individual trained in aquatic environmental chemistry and toxicology. The position will be housed at AWRI, where the successful candidate will work with faculty on projects focusing on watersheds and water bodies local to the region, as well as be responsible for teaching one course (to be determined) per year. The initial appointment is for one year with benefits and a competitive salary, with continued funding available for two additional years contingent upon satisfactory progress.

AWRI seeks a part-time Deckhand for a call-in position on the University’s passenger/research vessel’s D.J. Angus located in Grand Haven, MI and W.G. Jackson located in Muskegon, MI. Able seaman duties which include but are not limited to general ship's maintenance, i.e., prep, prime & painting. Work hours and days will vary from 1 June to 1 Sept. 2018. Prior experience doing shipboard maintenance, i.e., surface prep & painting. Individual must have adequate physical strength, stamina, and physical agility, visual and auditory acuity. AWRI seeks a part-time Deckhand for a call-in position, 12 month appointment, on the University’s passenger/research vessel W.G. Jackson located in Muskegon, MI. Underway schedule and work hours will vary depending on the vessel schedule. Vessel season runs 1 April - 31 Oct. The vessel operates approx. 500 hrs per season. Individual must be able to perform able seaman and assistant engineer duties which include but are not limited to general ship's maintenance, line handling, operation of deck machinery, general maintenance of engines and machinery, standing watch and act as relief mate and/or engineer. Duties also include assisting scientists with handling, rigging, and operation of research equipment, and working with students on educational cruises. Will be expected to perform record keeping and help manage ship's stores. Individual must have a minimum of five years’ experience aboard vessels. Required to participate in Random Drug Testing Program and complete CPR/First Aid certification, employer provided.
