For the past three years, elementary education major Ashly Latham has been on the E-Board for You Beautiful Black Woman (YBBW), an organization whose goal is to unite and empower Grand Valley’s women while raising awareness of African-American women’s accomplishments. During her final year at GV, she served as the organization's president.

Ashly says that YBBW uplifts the Laker community by “giving women of color a place to find people who look like them and make connections as we navigate life on a PWI (predominantly white institution)”.

YBBW gave Ashly a reason to get out of her dorm and experience Grand Valley’s social life. “This org has helped me feel at home in Grand Valley, and I've found some of the most amazing women and connections,” she says.

Ashly recommends going to Campus Life Night and researching different organizations to get involved in your own way. To make the most of your college career, visit LakerLink for a full list of opportunities.
