Getting involved at Grand Valley is just as important as getting to class on time, using your dining dollars, or wearing pants to class (we’ve all had that nightmare). It’s time to take your first step into a world of fulfilling community service, lifelong new friends, and fun homework-less activities. Here’s how you can get involved with student life!
Registered Student Organizations
Joining a student organization is simple. First, find a student org that interests you on LakerLink. LakerLink is a service we use at Grand Valley to manage student organizations and promote events. It has a complete list of registered student organizations (RSOs), including a handy search tool. If you’d rather talk to a living breathing human being instead of an unfeeling sequence of ones and zeros, head to the Office of Student Life inside of Kirkhof. In the office, you can talk to one of our friendly front desk staff who knows everything there is to know about student orgs, and they’ll be able to help you find the student org of your dreams.
Additionally, once per semester, GVSU hosts Campus Life Night. Campus Life Night is a celebration of student life where students are welcome to visit hundreds of tables representing a wide variety of student orgs. Speak to a club related to your major, catch a dance performance, and grab free goodies all while you’re meeting new people and finding a new home in a student organization.
Civic Engagement is a great way to get involved in programs that benefit not only you but the entire West Michigan community! Working with Community Engagement enables students to become active citizens and make a difference. Getting started couldn’t be simpler: head to the Civic Engagement website and register for any of their upcoming events. They host service opportunities, voter registration days, educational seminars to help you stay informed, and much more. Ta-da! Just like that, you’re on your way to becoming an active citizen at GV.
Fraternity and Sorority Life
Have you ever thought about joining Greek Life? Has the idea of having brothers and sisters connected through a common goal ever appealed to you? Is the sky blue? If you answered yes to any of these questions, visit the How to Join info page as a first step into the world of going Greek. You can also meet many of the chapters at Campus Life Night at the beginning of each semester, and you’ll be able to learn more about each fraternity and sorority’s individual recruitment process.
The easiest way to get involved with student life is by jumping into an event! All you have to do is visit the Student Life events calendar or the GVSU events calendar for the most complete list of on-campus events to attend. There are hundreds of events throughout each semester, so find one you like and stop by. Catch a performance from a performing arts organization, volunteer with the CSLC, attend Campus Activities Board events like Spring Concert, and SO MUCH MORE! There is an event for everyone!
See you there!
