Workshop #2 Maas

Sara Maas, PCEC Outreach Coordinator, Grand Valley State University

4:00pm EST., Friday February 10th

Live at the Seidman Center, GVSU

Title: Solar Cybugs

Create a solar powered cybug in this hands-on workshop. Participants will build a small circuit of a motor and solar cell and attach it to a small substrate on legs. Turn on the lights (or sun) and watch the little cybug skitter across a surface. All materials are provided in this make-and-take workshop best for engineers 10+. Junior engineers (9 years and younger) are welcome but will need some assistance with taping and hot gluing. Drop-in activity ~ 20 minutes to complete.

Meet Sara Maas, Outreach Coordinator for the Padnos College of Engineering and Computing at Grand Valley State University. Sara's academic journey led her to specialize in tool design, plastics engineering, and manufacturing operations -- often in classrooms as the only woman. She worked in the Michigan automotive industry for seven years, building production cells and implementing continuous improvements, before returning to Grand Valley to pursue K-12 STEM engagement and pipeline development. Outside of GV, you will find Sara at a hockey rink cheering on her kids, on a walk with her pittie rescue, Josie, or in the yard picking weeds.
