"When I was younger, I was active in sports, but I hated running. After college, I became bored with doing what I had always done: YouTube workout videos and using an elliptical. I started to run on the treadmill instead. I decided to challenge myself and run a half marathon (Gazelle Girl 2018). Once I did that, I wanted to push myself even more and run a marathon. I ran the Chicago marathon also in 2018! Training for a marathon was hard physically and mentally, but helped me realize how strong I am. I continue to run and hope to complete another marathon someday!

I participate in Recreation and Wellness because being active helps my overall health. I also enjoy the social aspect of meeting people interested in being active. I trained for the Chicago marathon with my then fiance (now husband) and it was a great bonding experience. Crossing the finish line together was amazing.

Being involved in Recreation & Wellness has introduced me to other people who enjoy running. I'm inspired by the success stories from our GVSU community!"
