Lead Camp Counselor

The Lead Camp Counselor is responsible for leading and implementing engaging and fun activities for youth in a small group setting. The Lead Camp Counselor will help create, implement and lead high quality indoor/outdoor educational and recreational experiences for youth that focus on recreation and well-being. This is a seasonal position that runs from April 2026 through mid August 2026. 

Responsibilities

  • Follow and enforce all department policies and procedures.
  • Create and plan weekly camp sessions for campers ages 6-12.
  • Assist in assigning other counselors to areas 
  • Manage the check in and check out process during camp.
  • Lead daily camp counselor programming meetings
  • Serve as a counselor during camp hours
  • Communicate with parents about participant's experiences and report concerns to camp leadership

 

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working a youth summer camp
  • Must be a current GVSU student, enrolled in Spring/Summer 2026 OR planning to be enrolled in the Fall 2026 semester.
  • CPR / First Aid Certified (provided if hired).
  • Ability to work well with others, as an individual and as part of a team.
  • Attend trainings required to preform the job duties

Details

Duration: this role will start in April 2026 and run through the end of camps in August 2026

Hours: During the winter semester, and leading up to the start of camp, this position will work up to 25 hours a week. During camps, this position will work up to 40 hours a week. 

Wage: $17.50/per hour

Location: GVSU Allendale Campus
