Getting Started

Interested in working with one of our Certified Personal Trainers, but don't know where to start?  Please follow these steps:

  1. Submit the Personal Training Interest Form
  2. Complete the Medical History Form – turn the completed form into the Fitness and Wellness Services Office D001 (located in the lower level of the Recreation Center, next to the basketball courts). If you do not have access to a printer, copies of the Medical History Form can also be found in the Fitness and Wellness Services Office.
  3. Schedule your Initial Consultation – After submitting the personal training interest form, you will be contacted by a member of our professional staff to schedule your initial consultation.
  4. Complete Initial Consultation
  5. Purchase the Personal Training Package that is right for you

Package Pricing

Our competitively priced 60-minute training sessions are sold in packages of 5, 10, 15, and 20 sessions and include an initial consultation.

Students

  • 5 sessions – $100
  • 10 sessions – $200
  • 15 sessions – $275
  • 20 sessions - $375

 

Non-Students

  • 5 sessions – $200
  • 10 sessions – $350
  • 15 sessions – $500
  • 20 sessions – $675 

 

All personal training sessions are non-transferable, and non-refundable, and are valid up to 120 days after purchase date.

All participants will be subject to a medical health history questionnaire and possible health care provider consent.

Personal Training session packages can be purchased in person or online:

  • In Person - Personal training session packages can be purchased at the Fitness & Wellness Services Office D001 (located in the lower level of the Recreation Center, next to the basketball courts).  The office is open from 10a-9p Monday – Thursday, and from 10a-5p on Fridays during the Fall and Winter Semesters.

Please complete the initial consultation prior to purchasing personal training sessions.

Initial Consultation

Each training package includes an initial consultation where:

  1. The trainer will review your medical history, discuss your current health, fitness, nutrition and lifestyle status, and complete movement and postural screenings.
  2. The trainer will then work with you to develop specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound (S.M.A.R.T) wellness goals. 
  3. Afterwards, the trainer will use the information from the initial consultation to develop a personalized, comprehensive training program for you.  
  4. The initial consultation takes approximately 75-90 minutes; please wear clothing you are comfortable conducting movement and postural screenings in.

Program Policies and Procedures

Payment: Recreation and Wellness charges a fee for services rendered by personal trainers. All services can be purchased in person or online:

  • In Person - Personal training session packages can be purchased at the Fitness & Wellness Services Office D001 (located in the lower level of the Recreation Center, next to the basketball courts).  The office is open from 10a-9p Monday – Thursday, and from 10a-5p on Fridays during the Fall and Winter Semesters.
  • Online - Personal training session packages can be purchased through the website by following this link: Purchasing Personal Training Sessions
  • Personal trainers are prohibited from receiving direct payment of any kind. Payment must be received before you will be scheduled for your first personal training session.

Expiration: All personal training packages expire 120 days from the date of purchase if unused or 120 days from the last completed session. Personal training sessions are void after this time period. All personal training packages are non- refundable (see refund policy) and non-transferable.

Refund: Personal training packages are refundable only in cases of; termination of university employment; formal leave of absence and sabbaticals (documentation is required); changes in medical condition resulting in physical limitations (physician letter required). View our refund policy.

Late: If the client arrives of more than 15 minutes late for the scheduled appointment, the personal trainer has the right to cancel the session. All sessions are scheduled for 60 minutes and will end one hour from the scheduled start time.

Cancellation: If you must cancel or reschedule a training session, please notify your personal trainer directly by phone and/or email at least 12 hours in advance of the scheduled training session. Personal training sessions that are not rescheduled or canceled at least 12 hours in advance by the client will result in forfeiture of the session.

Registration: The personal training interest form must be submitted to begin the scheduling process for personal training services.  Upon receipt of the personal training interest form, a member of our staff will contact you via email and/or phone within 72 hours to schedule your initial consultation.  Please complete the medical history form prior to the initial consultation.  A hard copy of the medical history form can be picked up from the Fitness & Wellness Services Office D001 (located in the lower level of the Recreation Center, next to the basketball courts).  The office is open from 10:00am-9:00pm Monday – Thursday, and from 10:00am-5:00pm on Fridays during the Fall and Winter Semesters, or online here: Personal Training Medical History Form.

Personal Trainers: All personal trainers must be employed by Recreation and Wellness. GVSU Recreation and Wellness holds the exclusive right to all personal training in the facility. Any personal trainers not employed by GVSU Recreation and Wellness are not permitted to train clients in our facility. If we suspect that you are training clients in our facility, you may be asked to leave or have your Recreation Center privileges revoked or suspended.

Membership: All clients participating in Personal Training Services, must have a current Fieldhouse membership, be a current student, faculty or staff member.
