Queer Connections

A storm darkened campus shot with a rainbow behind the clocktower

The Rainbow Resource Center, in collaboration with the LGBTQIA+ Faculty/Staff Association, is seeking LGBTQIA+ students to participate in our Queer Connections mentoring program. Queer Connections is open to all members of the university community but is specifically designed to match LGBTQIA+ undergraduate students with LGBTQIA+ faculty and staff. Mentoring pairs will meet regularly over a six-month period, during which they will build connections, explore resources, and work toward collaboratively-constructed goals.

How do I get a mentor?

The Queer Connections Interest Form is closed for the 2026-2027 school year. Please visit this page again in August/September of 2027 to register for next year's cohort. Or email the RRC Assistant to be added to the interested list for next year.

Our Queer Connections cohorts begin each October.

What is the time committment?

At minimum, mentors and mentees must be commit to monthly, in-person meetings for the academic year, typically October through April. Weekly or bi-weekly communication via phone or email is also highly encouraged. Additional meetings are up to the mentor and mentee to determine. The mentoring relationship is co-created and flexible to the needs of the match within this required time commitment.

What are the requirements for students (mentees)?

  1. Mentees must be undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled at GVSU
  2. Mentees must have the time, energy, and desire to commit to a substantive mentoring relationship for a period of six months
  3. Mentees must respond to requests for updates and feedback from the Rainbow Resource Center
