Summer Student Success Program

No, participation in the Summer Bridge Program is optional, but we highly recommend it as an excellent opportunity for students to get a head start on their college journey.
The summer bridge program will be FREE of cost for students, including tuition, housing, dining, and books. Students must file both their 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 FAFSA in order to receive funding.
Students will live on-campus in suite-style housing. They will be placed in either Pew or Devos Living Centers. Visit the following website to learn more about these living centers: https://www.gvsu.edu/housing/#north
Yes, the summer program is residential.
Roommates for the Summer Student Success Program are assigned by Housing staff. While students may submit a roommate request, placement together is not guaranteed. Summer roommate requests may be sent via email to Adrian Hall at [email protected].
May 1 (late registrations will be considered on a case-by-case. If interested after the deadline, students should reach out to Adrian Hall, [email protected])
Students receive a registration link by email after registering for New Student Orientation via their Laker Portal.
They will start in the fall semester and must attend a mandatory one-day Welcome Program.

Students will have three requirements: Meeting with their assigned success coach three times per semester, attending mandatory study tables held on one evening per week, and enroll and successful complete EDH 181 - Navigate College Success
For the Fall semester, OWS students may live with anyone that they choose. We do not restrict students on their housing during the Fall semester.
Students who do not attend during the summer are still admitted to GVSU through the OWS Program. Instead of beginning classes in the summer, students will begin in August by attending a one-day Welcome Program prior to the start of the Fall semester. Communication regarding the Fall Welcome Program will be sent out in mid-July.
No, once the student is admitted, they cannot be removed from the OWS program as their admittance to GVSU is based on their cumulative GPA on their transcript at the time that they applied.
An introduction to essential academic, social, and personal skills, emphasizing the expectations and requirements for success among college students within Grand Valley State University’s diverse and inclusive community. This course is required for all first-year OWS students.
