2026 Student Scholars Day Volunteer Shifts

The Center for Undergraduate Scholar Engagement and the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS) are seeking GVSU faculty & staff, along with community partners, to volunteer for Student Scholars Day on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Volunteers play a crucial role in the day's success by serving in various capacities, including greeters, registration, room hosts, and reviewers.  

Please complete the form below and indicate your availability for the scheduled shifts.  Our team will assign you a volunteer role based on your availability and the greatest need during that time.

Volunteer Role Descriptions for Wednesday, April 8, 2026

Are you curious about what you may be doing at Student Scholars Day? Please see the volunteer role descriptions below for more information. 

Student Registration

  • Welcome student presenters to Student Scholars Day.
  • Check in students using the provided registration list.
  • Give each student their nametag and SSD packet.
  • Direct candidates to their presentation/poster location.
  • Location:  This volunteer role is located in both the Kirkhof Center and Henry Hall.

Greeter

  • Escort students to their room or poster presentation location.
  • Escort guests/community members to their location.
  • Answer general questions about Student Scholars Day.
  • Please note: This position requires a significant amount of walking/standing.
  • Location:  This volunteer role is located in both the Kirkhof Center and Henry Hall.

Room Host (Faculty & Staff Only)

  • Volunteers are assigned to an oral presentation room.
  • Introduce the student presenters (unless mentor wishes to do so).
  • Keep presentations running on schedule.
  • Location:  This volunteer role is located in the Kirkhof Center.

Reviewer

  • Volunteers are assigned to an oral presentation room.
  • This role involves attending student presentations to support student researchers.
  • Location:  This volunteer role is located in the Kirkhof Center.

Poster Judge

  • Volunteers are assigned to a poster presentation location.
  • Converse with and provide feedback to the student's poster presentation
  • Judges will be assigned 5-8 undergraduate posters to assess, which requires a time commitment of 1-3 hours.
  • Judges will assess the student’s poster for content, clarity, visuals, and understanding of the subject material.
  • Location:  This volunteer role is located in both the Kirkhof Center and Henry Hall.

Student Scholars Day Volunteer Training

Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, March 24, 2026, for a 45-minute virtual training session. There have been a few updates to the event, and this training will provide a helpful overview for even the most seasoned volunteers. Please note: If your schedule does not allow you to participate in the virtual training, the session will be recorded and shared with all registered volunteers.
