Job Summary

Responsibilities include hiring, training, scheduling and supervising up to 50 student employees. Working with software specific to Parking Services to issue parking permits, process citations and appeals and track mass parking requests. Responsible for the Parking Service website. Responsible for scheduling parking team meetings and minute taking. Incumbent will be trained in all aspects of parking including meter and pay station collections, parking surveys and customer inquiries. May require working on the Grand Rapids and Allendale campus.

Essential Functions

  • Hire, train and supervise parking services student staff, assigning work and work flow
  • Respond to customer requests, questions and complaints based on approved university and department protocols pertaining to university parking needs.
  • Coordinate the parking violation appeal process, including the processing of online and written appeals; review, make recommendations, and implement changes for appeal process
  • Maintain and update on-line parking services which include parking permit sales and distribution, ticket reconciliation and payments, ticket appeals.
  • Assist with bi-annual parking survey, enter raw data into spreadsheets and assemble data into graphs.
  • Communicates with security supervisor on parking events to include daily transfer of information to booth attendants and parking compliance employees.
  • Responsible for the equipment used by parking services (inventories, maintains, troubleshoots and communicates with vendors and/or IT/Facilities if there are issues). Communicates all issues including corrective steps taken and outcomes to parking team. Makes suggestions for updating and replacing equipment.
  • Assists with mass permit sales, move on/off campus, university events requiring special parking accommodations, scheduling and training staff for planned and unplanned events (football games, emergency response). May perform in the lead team role as assigned.
  • Responsible for electronic and hard copy record keeping affiliated with parking operations
  • Works with parking team to develop procedures and student employee handbooks as needed for the smooth and efficient operation of the parking desk/parking department.
  • Works collaboratively as a member of the parking team to identify university wide parking issues and find appropriate resolutions. The team is responsible for all parking related tasks and considerations for GVSU campuses while maintaining identified protocol and procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the Parking Services website; coordination, scheduling and minute taking/distribution for all parking related meetings; maintenance and updating of the parking event calendar.
  • Create, analyze and distribute assigned and self-initiated reports.
  • Working/applicable hands on knowledge of activities that take place in the parking department in both Allendale and Grand Rapids locations. Required to fill in as needed.
  • Issue and invoice department requested permits (GR Facilities for contracted tenant parking).
  • Coordinates meter/pay station collections and transportation of money to registration desk.
  • Reports as essential staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant work experience. 
  • Experience with various computer software applications such as Microsoft Office and/or equivalent. 
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully operate office equipment. 
  • Data entry experience.
  • Typing and spelling competency with grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully provide quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate work activities of others. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
  • Ability to successfully maintain positive intercultural and interpersonal relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education.

Supervision Received

Receives general instruction from a designated supervisor but is generally expected to work independently.

Supervision Exercised

Hire, train, schedule and coordinate the work of student employees and may act as lead worker to PSS staff members within the department/unit/division.
