Maggie's Commitment to People, Equity, and Culture
What aspects of PEC’s mission and/or work most excite or inspire you?
I am most excited by the sense of community our work can foster. When we all support each other, it creates a environment of excellence and unity.
Please share a moment in your personal or professional journey that deepened your commitment to equity and inclusion.
I volunteered to teach English to non English speakers through my church when I was in college. During my very first lesson, I assisted someone in writing their own name for the very first time. You don’t need to speak the same language to understand the look on their face; filled with a newfound hope and sense of optimism. I always find myself thinking back to that experience and remembering that everyone has the capacity to contribute in their own way to our collective achievements, some just may need the support of their fellow man to realize it.
How do your lived experiences or core values shape your approach to this work?
We are all humans and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. Even when going through stressful or less than ideal situations, we have to remember to give each other the grace and understanding we hope is bestowed on us.
What is a hope or vision you carry for your time with PEC?
I hope to make a difference and be able to contribute in some small way to improving the experience of everyone who steps foot on our campus from faculty and staff to the students we serve.
