HOUSING INFORMATION, CHECKLISTS, SERVICE DESK HOURS & CONTACT INFORMATION
LEAVING for all or part of Thanksgiving Break
Before departure, please:
- Empty all trash bins and recycling; bring bags to the trash room/dumpster
- Discard any perishable food items that may spoil prior to your return
- Shut and lock windows and close your blinds
- Turn off all electronics and all lights
- Remove any valuable items
- Shut and lock unit door
- Take home any personal belongings that are in violation of Housing & Residence Life Community Living Standards

NOT RETURNING to on-campus housing for the Winter 2027 term
If you are NOT returning to on-campus housing for the Winter Semester, review the cancel and move-out process.
Students completing a Contract Release are not eligible to stay past the end of the semester contract period: 5:00 p.m., Saturday, December 19, 2027.
LEAVING for all or part of Winter Break
Residents should be out of their units for Winter Break by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2026
Before you depart for winter break, please be sure to complete the following items.
- Empty all trash bins and recycling; bring bags to the trash room/dumpster
- Discard any perishable food items that may spoil prior to your return
- Shut and lock windows and close your blinds
- Shut and lock unit door
- Turn off all faucets in kitchen and bathroom and flush toilet
- Unplug all electronics and turn off all lights
- Turn down thermostat to 55⁰-60⁰; DO NOT TURN OFF THERMOSTAT
- Remove any valuable items
- Take home any personal belongings that are in violation of Housing & Residence Life Community Living Standards

Complete the Winter Break Stay Request in myHousing > Apply | Cancel | Forms
Break stay requests are for students who are planning to stay on campus during any part of Winter break: after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2026, through Friday, January 8, 2027.
Residents can plan to return to GVSU Housing on Saturday, January 9, & Sunday, January 10, 2027.
- Residents are required to follow all University guidelines as well as all Housing and Residence Life policies during their break stay.
- The University reserves the right to make alternate room assignments during break periods.
- Housing staff will be completing inspections of each unit over break.
- Please note: the institution will be closed for most of the Winter break; including dining services.
- Housing staff may not be able to quickly respond or assist with issues. Students who are locked out may be waiting 1-2 hours.
- If you need assistance during this time, contact the appropriate duty phone number below, GVPD at (616) 331-3255, or in case of an emergency, dial 911.
