Historically Black College / University (HBCU) / Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Consortium

Our Purpose

The Historically Black College/University (HBCU) and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Consortium exists to foster collaboration, not competition, with our partner institutions. Its mission is to create meaningful pathways for students from historically marginalized communities to access real, impactful career opportunities, while simultaneously strengthening and diversifying the talent pipeline across West Michigan.

Grand Valley State University is proud to offer a range of articulated course pathways in partnership with HBCUs and HSIs. These pathways are designed to help students seamlessly pursue degrees that align with their academic aspirations and professional goals, ensuring a supportive and inclusive educational experience from start to finish.

HBCU/HSI Consortium Graduate

"This program will push you to grow as a professional. I had to become comfortable being uncomfortable, and that was where I found growth. [Incoming students] should feel confident and know that there's already a family here to support them."

Javier Guillen will earn a master's degree in cell and molecular biology.

HBCU/HSI Consortium Graduate

"The HBCU/HSI Consortium opened the door to GVSU, but the journey wasn't easy. Facing challenges on my own taught me resilience and shaped me into the leaders I am today.""
