Connecting students, communities, and nature

Groundswell Stewardship Initiative’s mission is to support and inspire students to care for their place. We do this by providing educators with professional learning opportunities, project funding, and partnerships.

Our vision is that all educators are champions of place-based stewardship education, and all students are learning in our local community and are lifelong environmental stewards.

Since 2007, Groundswell Stewardship Initiative has been housed in GVSU's College of Education and Community Innovation. The Groundswell network includes more than 50 community organizations, schools, non-profits, governmental agencies, and local businesses.
