A Lifelong Passion For Nursing

Jared Gordon

When choosing a career path, Jared Gordon, Class of 2022, wanted to combine his love for science with his passion for advocating for others. Nursing brought together these passions.

Jared chose to attend Grand Valley after growing up in Grand Rapids and watching the expansion of the Medical Mile. He wanted to be a part of the growth and innovation that he saw taking place. Grand Valley’s renowned nursing program provided Jared with the opportunity to learn while working alongside health care professionals in his hometown.

“I have known since high school that I wanted to work in health care,” said Jared. “Being able to work, learn, and live in the same community that helped shape me into the person I am today has been very rewarding.”

Jared wants to make a positive impact on his community. He currently works at Spectrum Health as a Nurse Technician and is able to share his talents with the community. After growing up surrounded by nurses who also served as leaders in his life, Jared is preparing to follow in their footsteps.

“Nurses are leaders,” said Jared. “I want to use my talents to serve the community that shaped and inspired my goals. Eventually, I hope to become a nurse educator and advocate for underrepresented communities.”

Jared will graduate in the Fall of 2022 with a bachelor's degree in nursing. After graduating, he hopes to stay in Grand Rapids and eventually specialize in pediatrics or cardiothoracic nursing. Eventually, he hopes to train the next generation of nursing students as an educator.
