What is the difference between First Aid, CPR & AED Training?

It is important for all to understand the difference between the types of trainings offered by Fitness & Wellness.

First Aid: Participants learn to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies, such as burns, cuts and scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck and back injuries, and heat and cold emergencies.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Participants learn life saving care, which consists of chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth respiration. CPR enables oxygenated blood to circulate to vital organs such as the brain and heart.

AED: Participants learn how to use automatic external defibrillators.

Requesting a Group CPR or First Aid Class

If your group or organization has at least four people who need to be certified, we can offer a class just for them. Fill out the GVSU Recreation & Wellness service request form and select CPR or First Aid Class for a Group to get started. Class types and lengths are outlined in the course descriptions above. There is a 4 person minimum to conduct a session, and a 12 person max per one instructor. If a group is larger than 12, we will attempt to secure another instructor. Otherwise, multiple sessions may need to be conducted to get everyone certified.
