Group Fitness
- You will need to find GVSU Recreation & Wellness on the Mindbody app or website by clicking this registration link.
- Despite our classes being FREE to GVSU students, all participants must create a Mindbody account, purchase the GVSU GX pass class pass and complete their waiver before you are able to RSVP for any classes.
- Download the Mindbody app and complete the RSVP process up to five days in advance of your desired class.

Class descriptions will give insight into what you can expect for the class. Simply go to our website, select Group Fitness on the top left corner, scroll down to GX schedule and click the expansion arrow to see class details.

No. The first week of classes is always considered a try before you buy week so whether you are a student with access to a free pass, or faculty, staff or community member thinking of investing in a semester group fitness pass, you can join us for FREE.
All of them! Our passes are cultivated to give you access to any class you wish to attend so long as you adhere to the RSVP guidelines.
General Policies
- All participants are required to complete register and RSVP up to 5 days prior to all group fitness classes. Please go to MindBody to reserve your spot.
- All group fitness class passes are non-refundable and non-transferrable and a parking pass is NOT included with purchase.
- Participants must be at least 18 years of age to participant.
- If between 16-18 year of age, participant must have parental consent on the Acknowledgement of Risk and Release of Liability Form.
- If under 16 years of age, participants must have parental consent on the Acknowledgement of Risk and Release of Liability Form and be approved for participation by Recreation & Wellness administrative staff.
- A medical examination is not required for participation. However, if you know that you have a medical/health condition and/or you will be starting a new exercise program and/or will be significantly increasing your current activity level, it is recommended that you talk with your doctor before participating.
- Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle to all classes.
- The improper use of equipment and failure to properly clean equipment after use is not tolerated.
- No entrance is allowed 5 minutes after the designated class start time.
- Personal items should be placed safe and secure areas, not interfering with activity. Grand Valley is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Participants are encouraged to leave their phones with their belongings for safety reasons.
- Space is limited. If a person who has a reservation does not arrive within 5 minutes of the class start time, their reservation will be forfeited.
- All classes are subject to cancellation and/or change based on the availability of qualified instructors, facilities, and participation.
- There are no scheduled classes during holidays, semester breaks, or school closings.
- Weather Policy – cancellation will be determined based on conditions. Please refer to Recreation & Wellness's Weather Policies for more information.
- For the safety and privacy of all, participants are discouraged from taking pictures and/or videos within the class spaces. If capturing images and/or videos for the promotion of Recreation and Wellness, please be sensitive of others in the background.
- Recreation & Wellness strives to create an inclusive and welcoming environment and does not discriminate against any individuals. We expect the same of all of our participants and will not tolerate the discrimination of others through language, gestures, or any other form of behavior that makes other feel unwelcome while in our programs.
Cancellation Policies
EARLY CANCELLATIONS
Class booking cancellations must be made at least 45 minutes before the start of the class. Please be courteous to those on the Waitlist by canceling in a timely manner.
LATE CANCELLATIONS
You will not be reimbursed for your class pass for a booked spot with a No-show (late cancel).
WEATHER & LAST-MINUTE CANCELLATIONS
Please remember that participant safety is our number one priority, and classes may be canceled at any time due to weather or other circumstances as determined by Recreation & Wellness staff.
We will do our best to shift your class to a virtual format in a timely manner. In the instance that a virtual class is not offered in place of the cancellation, you will be reimbursed your class pass credit.
Training Services
Submit the training services interest form.
We offer a couple package options ranging from 1 to 15 session, however we recommend new clients book for a 5-session package to start.
Your first session includes a discussion about your goals, fitness history, current activity level, injuries or limitations, and a movement assessment. This helps create a personalized training plan tailored to your needs.
No. Personal training is designed for all fitness levels, from complete beginners to experienced athletes. Programs are customized to meet you where you are and help you progress safely.
The ideal frequency depends on your goals, schedule, and budget. Most clients see great results training 1–3 times per week while following a structured plan outside of sessions.
Wear comfortable workout clothes and supportive athletic shoes. Bring water and a positive attitude.
Trainers can provide basic nutrition recommendations. For specialized medical nutrition advice, clients should consult a registered dietitian or healthcare professional. GVSU's Laker Food Co. offers registered dietitian services, please visit the Laker Food Co. website for more information.
Most sessions are 45–60 minutes, though shorter or longer options may be available depending on your needs and goals.
Please provide at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations may be subject to a fee according to the cancellation policy.
Please inform your trainer of any injuries, medical conditions, or physical limitations before starting. Workouts can be modified to accommodate your needs and help you train safely.
Results vary based on consistency, effort, nutrition, recovery, and individual factors. Many clients begin noticing improvements in strength, energy, and fitness within a few weeks.
First Aid, CPR & AED Training
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to be prepared for emergencies, including parents, teachers, coaches, childcare providers, healthcare professionals, workplace employees, and community members.
No prior experience is required. The course is designed for beginners as well as individuals renewing their certification.
Course length varies depending on the program and certification level. Most classes range from 2 to 6 hours and include both classroom instruction and hands-on practice. See the course details on our page for more information!
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to kneel, bend, and participate in hands-on activities.
Instructors typically provide guidance and opportunities for additional practice. Course completion requirements vary by training provider.
