Early Career Teacher Induction Program
Beginning in Fall 2026, we are offering a tuition-free induction program for a cohort of BCPS early career teachers. This customized program is more than a professional development requirement—it is a major investment in teachers, their teaching growth, and their long-term future in the profession. It features:
• 12 Graduate Credits: Completely tuition-free with no out-of-pocket costs.
• Master's Degree Alignment: Credits directly apply toward many Master's in Education programs.
• Blended Format: A thoughtfully designed 3-semester experience combining in-person and virtual learning.
• Practical Coursework: Grounded completely in real classroom practice, covering school culture, special education, and culturally responsive teaching.
Who is encouraged to apply?
Program participants are required to have a bachelor’s degree from a four-year, accredited initial teacher certification program or a post-baccalaureate PK-12 teaching certificate earned at a four-year university. Ideal candidates will have between 1-5 years of classroom experience.

Study of research-based methodologies related to the establishment of positive school environments that promote academic achievement for all students within a community of learners. Focus on teachers as change agents, leaders, and collaborators. |
Study of special education policies, procedures, and professional practice. Emphasis will be placed on the provision of a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder, cognitive impairment/intellectual disability, and specific learning disability. |
Examines how language and language variations are used in social context and the interdependent relationship between language and culture. Provides a theoretical and practical foundation for teacher candidates to use linguistically and culturally responsive teaching strategies. |

EDI 680 : Special Topics Professional Learning Community (1 credit) |

Teachers will participate in a Professional Learning Community which examines course concepts in practice and provides the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue focused on the pragmatic experiences of early career teachers in an urban public school environment. |
