What is NSSLHA?
NSSLHA, an acronym for National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, is an association for students interested in the field of speech-language pathology and/or audiology. NSSLHA is an affiliate with the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), which is a professional organization for audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists. NSSLHA was founded in 1972, and has approximately 13,000 members with chapters at more than 300 colleges and universities. You can join NSSLHA at a national level for $60 and receive access to member’s digest, and more. You can also join Grand Valley's chapter at a local level for $5 a semester, and have access to all of the volunteer opportunities and events we host. We encourage local member to join at a national level as well, but it is not required.
Meet the 2019 E-Board!
My role as NSSLHA president is to look over and aid all the officers, keep chapter updated with both GVSU’s guidelines and National NSSLHA affiliation, and help with anything the club needs to function properly.
Madalyn (Vice President)
My role as the vice president is to help all officers and to make sure this club is running properly, update Laker Link, and provide direction to all of the officers.
My role as NSSLHA secretary is to keep everyone on board with events, volunteer opportunities, and event logs, as well as keep attendance and general information.
My role as NSSLHA treasurer is to manage all club expenses, collect/keep track of member dues ($5/semester), purchase food for club meetings and events (please let me know if you have any food allergies!), assist with fundraising logistics, and order NSSLHA apparel/accessories and graduation cords.
Lauren (Volunteer Coordinator)
My role as NSSLHA volunteer coordinator is to seek out and organize volunteer opportunities that improve member engagement and learning, send emails/ post on Facebook about volunteer opportunities, and evaluate risks associated with events.
Bridgette (Event Coordinator)
My role as NSSLHA event coordinator is Plan events for the club: movie nights, guest speakers, study sessions, contact other organizations on campus for events, help with ASHA planning, etc.
