Mental Health Communications Toolkit: July

National Disability Independence Day

July 26 is National Disability Independence Day, which celebrates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law. The Americans with Disabilities Act expands the rights of those with disabilities including the addition of aids including elevators and door-push mechanisms that empower those with physical disabilities to move freely, more widespread use of sign-language interpreters, and the development of new technologies that enhance accessibility.

While there has been progress, there is still much work to be done to create and sustain environments that embrace accessibility, inclusion, and belonging. For additional support and resources, visit GVSU's Disability Support Resources webpage. The University Counseling Center is here to help if you'd like some additional support. Check out our group counseling options, including an ADHD: Finding Your Focus group, or reach out to speak to a counselor.
