Cell and Molecular Biology, M.S.

The Master of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) at Grand Valley State University prepares students to advance discovery and innovation in the life sciences. The program focuses on understanding how cells function and the significance of those functions in living organisms.

Students can pursue two M.S. options: a research thesis-based degree, which emphasizes independent laboratory research and preparation for doctoral or research careers, or an internship-based Professional Science Master’s (PSM), which combines advanced scientific training with professional skills for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and related industries.

This interdisciplinary field integrates biochemistry, biophysics, genetics, and developmental biology, providing the foundation for applied areas such as biotechnology, pharmacology, and biomedicine.
