Frequently Asked Questions

Toast is a celebration of your journey as a student, your graduation, and what it means to be a Laker for a Lifetime.

The event is for graduating students and includes brief remarks from an alumni speaker and President Mantella, as well as a champagne toast. Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to participate.

Toast began as "Toast with T-Haas" with a few dozen attendees and eventually grew to attract over 1000 graduates in the Spring of 2019. In 2023, Toast returned as a celebratory alumni welcome event to celebrate new graduates!

Yes! Complimentary desserts, sparkling punch, and water will be available for all attendees. Each attendee will receive one glass of champagne, or a non-alcoholic variety, in a limited edition Laker for a Lifetime champagne flute as a gift.

Toast is sponsored by the Alumni Relations office and is free for all attendees.

Unfortunately, no. Toast is a celebratory event for graduating GVSU students and guests are not permitted.

Due to capacity, you are allowed to attend only one session of Toast. The program for both events will be the same. Be sure to coordinate with your friends for which session you will attend prior to submitting your RSVP.

Yes, if you aren't able to attend Toast but would like your Class of 2024 champagne flute, please email [email protected]. After Toast, we'll email you with instructions on how to pick up your flute.

Toast is offered in April and December, prior to the Commencement ceremony. For April Toast, students graduating in the Winter or Summer semesters are invited to attend. For the December Toast, students graduating in the Fall semester are invited to attend. Each senior is allowed to attend Toast once in their final year at GVSU.

While there is no dress requirement, we encourage business casual.

Yes. All attendees must bring a GVSU student ID and state-issued ID in order to receive champagne.

If you don't have a student ID, we encourage you to get one prior to Toast. Having your student ID will streamline the check-in process. How to get a GVSU student ID

If you attend Toast without a student ID, we will check you in with your G-number.

If you don't have a state-issued ID or passport, you can still attend Toast, but you won't be able to receive a glass of champagne.
