CDR Michele Schallip, MPA '08, was recently assigned as Executive Officer (second in command) aboard the United States Coast Guard Cutter HEALY (WAGB 20) in Seattle, WA. The HEALY is United States' newest and most technologically advanced polar icebreaker. The ship can break 4.5 feet of ice continuously at three knots, operate in temperatures as low as -50 degrees, and is designed to conduct a wide range of scientific research activities. Michele previously served as the U. S. Coast Guard's Chief of Waterways Management for the Pacific Northwest district.
