Carissa Patrone Maikuri and Antony Maikuri were married in a small ceremony on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. They chose June 12 (also known as Loving Day) in celebration of the historic Supreme Court case, Loving v. Virginia. On June 12, 1967, Richard and Mildred Loving won their case after being arrested for "unlawful cohabitation"- this decision legalized interracial marriage in every state and declared unconstitutional a Virginia law prohibiting mixed-race marriage.
