After earning my Masters in Clinical Dietetics from Grand Valley State University, I never expected my next chapter would involve owning a bakery but in 2025, I took a leap that changed my life. When I learned that Grove Street Bakery, a beloved Bloomington, Illinois staple since 1996, was planning to close, I couldn't ignore the impact it had on its community or on me personally. What started as a conversation quickly turned into action, and within weeks, I became the new owner. GVSU played a pivotal role in shaping my path. Through my academic experiences, leadership opportunities, and involvement across campus, I developed not only a strong foundation in nutrition and food service, but also the confidence to pursue something unexpected. The support, mentorship, and sense of community I found at GVSU gave me the courage to take a risk and step into entrepreneurship. Today, as both a Future Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and small business owner, I am passionate about blending my love for food with my commitment to helping others. At Grove Street Bakery, we continue the tradition of scratch-made baked goods that customers have loved for decades, while also working to expand offerings and create a more inclusive and community-focused space. I hope to incorporate nutrition education, mental health awareness, and outreach into the bakery"s mission because I believe food is not only nourishment, but also connection, joy, and balance. Owning Grove Street Bakery has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. It's a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful opportunities are the ones you never planned for!
