I am pleased to announce that I have been selected to serve as the next City Manager for the City of Morgantown, West Virginia. Morgantown is the home of West Virginia University with an enrollment of over 30K students and the Mountaineers are part of the NCAA Big 12 Conference. The population of year-round residents is about the same size. The community also serves as a regional medical center, so as the saying goes, the jobs center around eds and meds. Morgantown frequently makes the top places lists to live and do businesses - this is according to Money Magazine, Forbes, Kiplinger, etc. just to name a few. After interviewing in three other college towns (I was finalist in Oberlin OH, Big Rapids, and Ypsilanti), Morgantown turns out to be the best fit for me. The city has a strong partnership with the university on many facets that go beyond the normal relationship between a university and its community - this is something I truly admire. At the same time, the city is also embarking a major expansion to its municipal airport. I am always interested in aviation and how an airport works prior to this opportunity I have only admired this line of work from afar. Lastly, I am now able to pursue my passion in furthering the already strong business climate through my experience in economic development. From a professional perspective, this is a complete package. I am excited about this opportunity and ready to get started in early February. I will miss my home state of Michigan, but I will be back frequently enough to visit family.
