U.S. men and women are both highly successful in international sports competition (e.g., Olympics), yet only the women excel in international soccer. In this talk, Rob Deaner from GVSU's Department of Psychology will quantify just how poorly the U.S. is at producing elite male soccer players and then explore possible causes of this phenomenon, drawing on research from history, economics, sports science, and psychology.
