You'll be automatically considered for GVSU merit scholarships when you complete your application for admission. No additional forms or essays required! Use the rubric below to see how much initial scholarship aid you may qualify for, based on your GPA.
Test scores are NOT required for admission but some of our merit scholarships do require test scores.

Non-Michigan residents who qualify for merit scholarships also receive the difference between full-time Michigan resident tuition and non-resident tuition.

GV Meridian Scholarship
Chart your course. Lead the way.
The GV Meridian Scholarship recognizes exceptional students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, intellectual curiosity, character, and the potential to make a meaningful impact at Grand Valley and beyond. This scholarship award includes:
- Full undergraduate tuition and all mandatory fees, including the following;
- Covers up to 15 credit hours per semester during the fall and winter semesters
- On-campus housing up to the equivalent cost of a traditional double room
- Dining up to the equivalent cost of the 14+ meal plan
- One-time $6,000 scholarship for an approved study-abroad experience
- Renewable for up to three additional consecutive academic years
Up to 20 GV Meridian scholarships may be awarded. This scholarship requires a completed application by December 1. Read on for full eligibility criteria.
- Incoming first-year student beginning in the fall semester
- Full time enrollment directly from high school, not dual enrolled students
- Minimum 3.75 cumulative high school GPA
- Complete all sections of the application for admission, including all required materials, submitted by December 1
- Participate in the January GV Meridian Scholars Selection Experience
- No ACT or SAT score required or considered
- Honors College participation is not required
Eligible students will be considered automatically through a holistic review of their admission application. The review may consider:
- Academic achievement and curricular rigor
- Leadership and involvement
- Community engagement
- Intellectual curiosity and creativity
- Honors and awards
- Essay or personal statement
- Character, resilience, and personal experiences
- Potential to contribute meaningfully to Grand Valley and beyond
Selected finalists will be invited to participate in the January GV Meridian Scholars Selection Experience. Final decisions will incorporate both the holistic application review and finalist participation in the selection experience.

- Eligibility identification and holistic review: December 2-18
- Finalists notified: By December 19
- Finalist registration deadline: Early January

- Scholarship recipients notified: By February 15
