Undergraduate Minor

Allendale • Face to face • 24 Credits

The physics secondary education minor helps students gain expertise in the science of physics while learning the principles of physics pedagogy.

Overview

At Grand Valley, students gain the experimental and analytical skills needed for today’s evolving job market. Working closely with faculty, students apply theoretical knowledge to engaging, student-driven research projects in diverse areas such as acoustics, astronomy, atomic physics, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, and medical physics

In addition to courses on core physics theories, like vectors, kinematics, gravitation, mechanical waves, and sound, the program includes elective course options in electromagnetic fields, thermodynamics, optics, mechanics, and more. You will also closely study the principles of teaching physics at the secondary level.

You will benefit from dedicated study and collaboration spaces, active engagement in the Society of Physics Students, and a comprehensive liberal education with tailored courses and programs. Faculty are known for their enthusiasm and dedication to excellent personal teaching. You will gain hands-on learning through academic research, and outreach events like Michigan's Science Olympiad and the Roger That! conference offer immersive learning experiences beyond the classroom.
