The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) studies minor examines the history, culture, politics, and experiences of LGBTQ individuals and communities.
The program explores issues related to gender identity, sexual orientation, social justice, and human rights, focusing on how these factors intersect with race, class, and other social categories. Emphasizing critical thinking, writing, and leadership skills, this curriculum prepares students for a variety of careers.
You will take courses across various disciplines, including anthropology, biology, English, history, legal studies, LGBTQ culture, social work, and sociology, providing a diverse outlook on LGBTQ issues.
You will expand your knowledge through vibrant cross-cultural events at GVSU and participate in cocurricular activities with the Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center, Gayle R. Davis Center for Women and Gender Equity, and Office of Multicultural Affairs. Faculty members actively support individual and collaborative research projects, offering opportunities for you to show your commitment to the community through internships, service learning, and volunteering.
