The finance major offers a comprehensive education in the world of financial management, investment strategies, and market analysis.

Overview

The Bachelor of Business Administration in finance equips students with essential financial concepts and strategies that businesses need to thrive. Students are prepared to analyze financial markets, manage investments, understand the complexities of financial instruments, and make informed financial decisions. 

In addition to its business core, the curriculum explores topics like valuation, investments, derivatives, banking, financial modeling, insurance, international finance, and portfolio management. The curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in financial principles while also offering opportunities for hands-on learning through internships and experiential projects.

Courses are taught by expert faculty who integrate financial simulations and current technology in the classroom. You will gain valuable business experience through internships and an annual expo highlighting diverse career opportunities. The Gary L. Tilkin Financial Markets Center provides hands-on learning with advanced financial databases, and an active portfolio management course allows you to manage a $250,000 stock portfolio, gaining invaluable practical experience in strategy and decision-making.

Admission Information

Seidman's Early Access Program

Each year, the Seidman College of Business allows early access into the business college to a select few individuals as first-year students. This honor is reserved for students who have received a 3.500 or higher high school GPA.

Seidman Success Standards

For students not part of Seidman’s Early Access program, the Seidman College of Business permits access to upper-level (300-400) business courses after meeting the following Seidman Success Standards:
1. Have earned at least 55 semester hours (junior status)
2. Established a 2.500 or higher overall GPA; and
3. Completed the following courses with a 2.500 or higher combined GPA: ACC 212, BUS 201, ECO 210, ECO 211, MGT 268, STA 215

This program requires a secondary admission process.

Career Opportunities

Advise clients on financial plans using knowledge of tax and investment strategies, securities, insurance, pension plans, and real estate. Duties include assessing clients' assets, liabilities, cash flow, insurance coverage, tax status, and financial objectives. May also buy and sell financial assets for clients.
